Chemical Driver, Andy Smith, is dedicated to continuous improvement and has an unwavering passion for helping others reach their full potential. That’s what makes him such a wonderful addition to the Atlas team!
“I really enjoy helping people advance themselves in their careers and seeing them succeed,” Andy said. “That’s what’s so great about Atlas– there’s so much opportunity to grow.”
Andy comes from a military upbringing– his father, a Navy Seal veteran that completed seven tours of Vietnam. Following in his father’s footsteps, Andy joined the U.S. Coast Guard at the young age of 17, spending four years of his early adulthood stationed in Alaska.
“Through the military, I learned to give 100% every day, in everything that I do,” he said. “It also taught me the importance of integrity and doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. I still try to live my life by those philosophies.”
When Andy isn’t driving, you can find him practicing martial arts, playing pool, watching Star Wars and spending time with his grandson. “My grandson inspires me in everything that I do because I want to be a positive example to him,” he explained.
Andy works out of Atlas’ Mobile, Alabama terminal and enjoys perks including Atlas’ Driver Referral program and Driver Rewards program, which gives Atlas drivers the opportunity to earn points redeemable for a wide-variety of name-brand items. Other perks include easy-to-navigate in truck technology, and new, reliable vehicles. Above all else, Andy’s favorite perk is the opportunity to connect with team members throughout the organization.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about the people,” he said. “Everyone I’ve talked to at Atlas– from marketing to training to dispatchers–they’re all wonderful and so eager to welcome you as part of the family. I feel that everyone genuinely cares for one another and that’s really special.”
